Following the success of the ECFS Twinning Project, Call #3 is now open for CF centres across Europe to apply to become a mentor or mentee.

Since its launch, the Twinning Project has supported CF centres in building partnerships, sharing expertise and strengthening care across Europe.

Due to the success of the project, the ECFS is launching Call #3 on 1 September 2026, with the aim of expanding twinning activities, especially to countries without any current twinning activity.

The project aims to build a partnership between two CF sites: one an expert CF centre with a long-standing history of outstanding CF care (mentor site), and the other a site with an ambition to improve clinical outcomes and a willingness to benefit from the guidance, advice and collaboration of a well-established CF centre (mentee site).

Aims of the Twinning Project

The project aims to:

  • establish new CF centre mentor and mentee partnerships and facilitate collaboration and exchanges between the twinned sites;
  • identify unmet needs in CF care and formulate feasible goals;
  • connect participating CF centres with ECFS learning resources and support the translation of these resources into relevant languages;
  • facilitate knowledge sharing and networking opportunities between CF centres and patient organisations in different regions.

How will the twinning pairs meet?

The new twinning pair is expected to have the mentor site organise at least one visit to the mentee site within the first six months.

The visit will include a CF physician and may also include a CF nurse and/or other CF team members. The aim of the visit is to establish a partnership, gain an overview of the mentee site, discuss unmet needs and opportunities, and use these discussions as a basis for further twinning activities.

Patient organisation representatives can also be involved in relevant meetings, providing an opportunity to bring the patient perspective into discussions about needs, priorities and opportunities for improvement.

The duration of the project for new sites is one year. After one year, a summary progress report will be prepared and submitted jointly by both sites and will serve as the basis for continuation of the funding.
