Forced vital capacity (FVC)

Forced vital capacity (FVC) is how much air a person breathes out in a lung function test.

FVC, or forced vital capacity, is a way of checking how well the lungs work. It is measured during a lung function test. A person takes the deepest breath in they can manage, then blows out the air as hard and fast as they can. The total amount of air they blow out is the FVC, measured in litres.
